North Star Cafe

With Earth Day and all, it's time to get in tune with the universe, man. Even Goad reports on a vegetarian festival April 21.

And the North Star Cafe, 225 Congress, which opened yesterday, has some of the vibrations as a veggie-only yuppie coffee shop - couches, open mikes, chai, wood floor, 26-year olds, organic teas, vegan brownies, microbrews on tap - it will have serve sandwiches with Mainely Poultry and prosciutto.

Beef up there before heading to The Snug, 223 Congress, for more drinks and a grilled cheese, soup, "or something," from the meat-free menu.

Portland Psst
I have been reading you for the last few weeks and am really pleased to have someone who writes well discussing the food culture of Portland. The pressherald food reviews always sound like they were written by a twelve year old. So here is my concern for those who read your site, nothing to do with this post; Whole Foods. Yes, a disappointment on so many levels. My biggest complaint however is all those windows on franklyn arterial so we have to look at the back rooms, storage and supplies. It is amazing that such an image conscious store would overlook this. My thoughts, tint the windows. Do you have any ideas. Does this bother anyone else. Also, has anyone else heard the El Camino of Brunswick will open a restaurant on washington ave soon. Okay, enough of my rambling. Keep up the great work.
